Running bar tabs
Open a tab by guest name at the bar, add rounds through the evening, move it to a table, and split it when the guest pays.
A tab is a check opened by the guest's name instead of a table, so guests at the bar can keep ordering and pay at the end. Tabs live in the POS next to your open table checks. Every round goes to the bar (or kitchen) as its own ticket, just like a table.
Opening a tab
- In the POS, choose Tab at the top of a new order (or Open checks → New tab). The hint reads "A running bill by name, no table needed."
- Type the Guest name for the tab. Or keep it a Walk-in: no name or phone is kept and the tab gets a number (Walk-in 1, 2…).
- Optionally fill Card / ID held, like "Visa ending 4421" or "ID held". It is only a reminder of what you're holding until they pay; nothing is charged.
- Add the drinks (tap them, or type their short codes and press Enter) and click Send. The tab is created with the first round.
Adding rounds
Open Open checks. Tabs are listed first under Tabs, with the guest's name, the time it was opened, your note and what's due. Open one, tap more drinks and click Send: each send is a new round (R2, R3 …) on the bar display and the KOT printer.
To change the name or the note, click Edit in the tab's header.
Tab limit
Set Settings → POS settings → Bar tabs limit to an amount, for example ₹5,000. The POS then warns staff when a tab is close to the limit (from 80%) and when it's over, so you can ask the guest to settle part of it or confirm a pre-auth. Leave it empty for no limit. It's a warning only: staff can keep adding rounds.
Moving a tab to a table
If the guests move to a table, open the tab and use Move to table in its header. The tab becomes that table's check, with all its rounds. Only free tables are offered. You need the tables permission (owners, managers, hosts and waiters have it).
Closing and splitting a tab
Click Pay. The payment dialog records each payment separately, so a tab can be paid in parts:
- Split the bill → By person: enter the number of people. The tab becomes that many equal bills, each with its own Print bill and Pay.
- Split the bill → By items: tick what one guest had (for a dish ordered three times, you can give them just one or two). Their bill includes their share of tax and service charge, and it prints with only their items.
- Split the bill → By amount: a custom amount for one guest.
The tab closes when the last split is paid. See Split bills.
Good to know
- Tabs are normal dine-in checks, so offers, happy hours, discounts, refunds and reports all work the same way. Parcel prices don't apply to tabs.
- Short codes make busy rounds quick:
2*RS180then Enter adds two pegs. See Short codes and fast POS entry. - New tabs are opened online. While the POS is offline you can keep adding rounds to tabs that are already open on the device.
