Menu translations for guests
Add languages to your guest menu, translate it with AI, review and edit the translations, and know how many languages your plan includes.
Translations (Menu & QR → Translations) lets guests read your QR menu in their own language. English always stays the base language and the default. You add languages, let AI translate the menu, check the result and save. Only owners and managers can manage translations.
This is about the menu your guests see. To switch the staff dashboard to Hindi, see Using AirQR in Hindi.
Which languages can I add to my guest menu, and how many?
You can add these languages, grouped in the Add a language list:
- India: Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Punjabi, Urdu.
- Global: Arabic, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Chinese (Simplified), Japanese, Korean, Thai, Indonesian, Turkish.
How many extra languages (besides English) your plan includes:
| Plan | Extra menu languages |
|---|---|
| Starter | 1 |
| Growth | 3 |
| Pro | 5 |
| Custom | 10 |
| Free trial | 3 |
No plan has unlimited languages. Need more? Each Extra menu language add-on adds one more for ₹299 a month (+ GST); ask AirQR from Settings → Billing and we add it to your plan.
The page header shows how many you use, for example "1 / 3 languages". When you reach the limit, the Add a language list is greyed out. Remove a language, upgrade, or add an extra language in Settings → Billing to add more. If you try to go over, you see "Your [plan] plan includes X menu languages. Upgrade, or add an extra menu language (₹299/month each) in Settings → Billing."
If your business already had more languages than your plan now includes (plans used to allow unlimited languages), you keep every language you have and guests still see them; you just can't add another until you are under the limit or add an extra language.
How do I add a language and translate the menu with AI?
- Open Menu & QR → Translations.
- Open Add a language at the top right and pick one, for example Hindi · हिन्दी.
- The language opens. You see how much is done, for example "Hindi · 0% translated" and "120 entries still in English".
- Click Translate missing with AI. AI translates every entry that has no translation yet, 40 at a time, with a progress bar ("Translating batch 2 of 5"). You see "Translated X entries — review and save".
- Review the translations (see the next section).
- Click Save [language] at the bottom of the screen, for example Save Hindi. You see "Hindi menu saved".
Important: AI translations are only suggestions until you click Save. If you leave the page first, they are lost. The bottom bar shows Unsaved changes while something is not saved.
Cancel any time: click Cancel on the progress bar. Batches already translated stay filled in on the page (review and save them as usual), the batch in progress is refunded and the rest are never charged, for example "Stopped. 2 of 5 done, 10 credits used, nothing charged for the rest."
AI credits: AI translation uses 5 AI credits for every 40 entries (charged batch by batch as each finishes), and translates up to 400 entries per click. A 120-entry menu uses 15 credits. Credits are shared with Import menu, Write with AI and the AI waiter: Starter 100, Growth 1,000, Pro 3,000 and free trial 300 per month, reset on the 1st. If AI fails, the credits are given back.
How do I review and edit menu translations?
The page lists everything guests read, in menu order:
- Menus (marked Menu): menu name and subtitle.
- Categories: name and note for guests.
- Items: dish name and description.
The English is on the left; the translation boxes are on the right. Type or correct any translation directly. Dish names are often best kept familiar (for example "Paneer Tikka" in Hindi script rather than a literal translation); edit them as your guests would say them.
Useful buttons:
- Show missing only hides entries that are already translated. Click Show all to see everything again.
- Preview opens your live guest menu in that language in a new tab.
Anything left empty shows in English on the guest menu. To remove a single translation, clear its box and save.
Add-on options, sizes and your business name are not translated on this page.
How do guests switch the menu language, and how do I remove one?
When your menu has extra languages, guests see a small language button (a translate icon with the language name) in the top-left corner of the menu's cover, on the QR menu and the online ordering page. They choose their language and the menu names and descriptions change straight away. Anything without a translation stays in English. If a guest picks Hindi, the menu's buttons and checkout also switch to Hindi.
After you add dishes or change names, open Translations again: new or changed entries show under Show missing only. Click Translate missing with AI, check them and save.
Removing a language: click the × next to the language's name at the top of the Translations page and confirm: "Remove [language] from the guest menu? Saved translations are kept if you add it back." Guests stop seeing that language straight away. Removing a language frees up a slot on your plan.
Troubleshooting menu translations
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| Add a language is greyed out | You've reached your plan's language limit. Remove one or upgrade. |
| I translated but guests still see English | Click Save [language]. Check the guest has picked that language in the picker. |
| Some dishes are still in English | They were added after translating. Use Show missing only and Translate missing with AI, then save. |
| AI credit error | You've used this month's AI credits. Translate by hand, wait for the 1st, or add credits in Settings → Billing → AI credits. |
| Translate missing with AI is greyed out | Everything is already translated ("Everything is translated."), or a translation is still running. |
| The Translations page asks me to upgrade | Your plan has ended. Choose a plan in Avatar menu → Plan & billing. |
