Parcel pricing

Change dish prices when an order is packed, with reusable parcel rates (a fixed amount or a percentage) set per dish, category, menu or outlet, and pack a single item on the POS. Different from the packaging charge per order.

A parcel rate changes a dish's price when it is packed to go: takeaway, delivery, online orders, a parcel round at a table, or a single item packed on the POS. Dine-in dishes eaten at the table keep their normal price. Parcel pricing is included in every plan.

Parcel rates

Open Settings → Parcel pricing. A rate is either a fixed amount (for example +₹20 or −₹20) or a percentage (for example +10% or −5%) of the dish's price. Choose Add to price or Take off price, give it a name such as "Standard parcel" and save. The dialog shows what it does to a ₹200 dish.

To change a rate, press Edit. The new value applies everywhere the rate is used, straight away. To stop using a rate, press Archive: anything that used it falls back to the next level (see below). Archived rates are listed at the bottom, and Restore brings one back. Owners and managers can create, edit and archive rates.

Where a rate applies

The most specific setting wins:

  1. The dish. In the menu builder, open the dish and use Parcel price: pick a rate, No parcel change, or Custom amount for an amount only this dish uses.
  2. The category. Open the category and set Parcel price.
  3. The menu. Open the menu settings and set Parcel price.
  4. The outlet default. In Settings → Parcel pricing, choose the rate each outlet uses for dishes that have nothing more specific. Each outlet has its own default.

Dishes, categories and menus apply across your whole business. Only the outlet default is per outlet. If nothing is set, the price doesn't change.

Parcel changes you set on dishes before rates existed became Custom amount, so no prices changed.

How the price is worked out

A percentage is taken from the size price (or the outlet's price for that dish), before add-ons, and rounded to the paisa. Add-ons are added on top at their normal price. The packed price never goes below ₹0. A fixed amount is added to or taken off the same size price. Guests and staff see the changed price (for example "parcel −₹20") before ordering.

Packing a single item on the POS

On a dine-in check, each item you add has a parcel button. Press it to pack just that item. It gets its parcel price, a Parcel tag shows on the POS, the kitchen display and the bar screen, and the kitchen ticket prints *\\* PARCEL \\ under it. The Pack this round as a parcel** switch still packs the whole round, and then the per-item buttons are hidden.

The packaging charge is still added once per order. A parcel item counts as a parcel for that rule, so a table that packs one item pays the packaging charge once, however many parcel items it has.

The menu spreadsheet carries only a dish's Parcel price change (its custom amount). Parcel rates are not exported or imported, so set them up again in Settings → Parcel pricing for a new business.

How is it different from the packaging charge?

  • Parcel price (this page): per dish, through a rate or a custom amount. A biryani in a big box can cost ₹30 more while a samosa costs nothing extra.
  • Packaging charge per order: one charge per packed order, set in Settings → Takeaway (and in online ordering settings for online orders). It shows as a separate Packaging line on the bill.

You can use either or both. See Takeaway tokens and pickup.

Troubleshooting

ProblemWhat to do
A takeaway bill shows the dine-in priceOpen the dish in the menu builder and check its Parcel price. If it says it follows the category, menu or outlet, check that level has a rate. Dine-in and tab orders never use parcel prices unless an item or round is packed.
The parcel price is lower than I expectedThe rate may take money off (for example −₹20 or −5%). Check the dish's Parcel price and which level it comes from.
One dish should never change priceSet its Parcel price to No parcel change.
The packing cost is charged twiceYou may have both a parcel rate and a packaging charge for the same cost. Keep one.
